INFORMATION - Provides information and referrals on utilities benefits for seniors, disabled and low-income, which may include cancer patients if they are low-income, over 65 or have a major medical cost. County utilities help varies, but may include phone, gas, electric, and water. Private companies may help cover heat and phone service.
CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE - It is the Commission's responsibility to ensure that vendors of these services provide safe, adequate, and reliable service at fair, reasonable rates (M.S. Chapters 216A, 216B and 237). This includes enforcement of the Minnesota Cold Weather rule. This provides that, if you are eligibie and apply, your heat cannot be turned off from Oct - Apr.
